Realm transfer Thread - abecx - 09-12-2011
This is just an open discussion, we went and checked out a couple of realms yesterday just to compare, just by looking it sure appears a lot nicer to see people around, as well moving to a realm that has a fair amount of progression ( some have 20 guilds 6/7 ) would help us a lot as we have a VERY hard time finding any quality players on this realm.
If we can be opposite WLPH and keep the discussion very pro/cons and non aggressive argumentative that would be great.
If money is the problem, please do not factor that in, we will do what we can to help and have already had 4 people offer to help monetarily wise.
We are specifically looking for a high pop realm that is NOT on the west coast ( due to time zones ).
What we want:
More players.
Better players.
Stuff we need to address:
Server performance ( ping, lag )
Materials.

Rather than having the entire guild pay to transfer, have everyone chip in $1 to transfer good recruits to scilla

Opinion - Make sure we know where we're going. Don't rush the pick on servers and make it spur-of-the-moment. Since we'd be moving ( I assume ) before 4.3, no word on when Guild Transfers coming out, we'd be taking time to regrind all that stuff.
No more cauldrons (as they require rep with guild to use, so cauldron droppers would need to rep grind asap), same I believe with feasts.
Might be worth hanging onto the Scilla guild on an alt of yours, so that if we do move, we can bring the actual fully-leveled guild if we end up moving close to when they release that.

Shoulda known the Ex Brigade would be all over this one.
As for a server transfer, I think I’m okay with the idea. We just have to be careful. It’s not going to be some sort of instant cure-all. Some things to think about…
- We will lose some people in the transition. We can help financially, but we lost people when we left Nath and that transfer was fucking free.
- Just because there will be a lot of people on the server we transfer to, doesn’t even necessarily mean that recruiting will be a cakewalk. 30 highly progressed guilds on one server means more competition for good players. It also means more turnover because, if someone doesn’t like our guild, there are two dozen other similar options
- High pop could mean lag and server issues when 50 guilds all go in to raid on Tuesday (remember Immortal runs on Nath?).
- We were all amazed at how low prices for things were on the AH last night when we looked at Sargeras. That’s good for the buyer, but razor thin margins are not good for the seller. It means gold will be harder to get.
- High pop means a lot of competition. Farming mats and leveling at the beginning of a new expansion will be complete AIDS.
- A server with a 1:0.05 Ally:Horde ratio will make PvP “different”. On the plus side, you’ll probably never get ganked and we’ll constantly have TB. But if Blizzard ever decides to do something like Halaa (where you had to kill opposing players to get dust to buy things with), we’ll be fucked.
I would like to talk to some of the officers of progressed guilds on the server we attempt to go to and ask them questions about these kinds of things before we commit to anything. I also don't think that we should automatically be looking at the highest pop servers with the highest Ally ratio. We should spend some time researching servers on a more even keel as well.
