Make sure you have a strong enough rope for when you realize how shitty Comcast is
Re: Ordered comcast - Crazy Diana - 02-03-2012
make sure youre aware of the fact that comcast limits their service by a staggering 200gb
Re: Ordered comcast - abecx - 02-03-2012
I've had comcast for years, then when i moved to houston I wanted the fastest broadband and att was it. I never had an issue with comcast in Texas.
I only download 100 or so GB a month.

So, like 12 years ago, when cable internet was first coming out, I worked as an installer for ATT in Washington. One thing I can tell you is that people bitch about their internet companies all the time, but like 90% of the time, it's not the internet company. It's the wireing at the house or between the house and the trunk. Underground lines are vastly superior (and normally much newer) than overhead. And lots of old houses have 59 cable instead of 60 which constricts bandwith. Given how much I use the net, these are always things I look at when I move to a new place. Sometimes you can convince your cable company to come out and drop a new overhead line, but they won't touch the shit inside your house and so you end up still being fucked.

Yep, wiring is the main problem. The SNR goes to shit with old wires. Either the DSL ISP severely reduces the data rate in your neighboorhood/house or you will bitch about your connection dropping all the time. I would assume coax is a little bit sturdier than phone wire, so cable shouldn't have as many problems as DSL.
It took me 6 months to convince att to start replacing phone lines (after they noise tested every node between my house and their substation a mile away), and the one that was fucked up was the underground line between the routing box in the house. Of course, it was a 200ft line that had to be dug underneath the driveway, but thankfully that fixed it.

Threading cables through walls isn't hard.
