If you do it now or if you wait three months, the effect is the same - but right now you have all the paperwork in front of you, so why wait? Additionally, part of the unemployment registration processes registers you with state job boards. I'm not sure how good the unemployment resources in Texas are, but even the worst are better than nothing. If you're serious about getting back to work sooner rather than later, your new full time job is finding a job. If you're not putting in 8 hours a day and using every resource available, you're doing it wrong.
