People not giving warning when they're not showing up is not the problem. It's a problem, to be sure, but not the problem. The problem is people not showing up in the first place. I’m pretty guilty of this myself as of late. And I suspect that most peoples’ reasons are probably fairly near to my own. Wiping on this fight for five months is not fun. Especially given that we’ve had pretty much zero progression that wasn’t washed away the next week. Personally, I am done putting a gaming experience that I no longer enjoy above my family, friends and social life. So whenever a decision arises between RL and WoW, I will be picking RL every time.
Given our complete lack of lasting progression, we need to seriously consider whether or not this fight is within our capability as the guild stands. There is a very good chance that we have less than two months before 4.0 hits. We can bitch and moan about the cause of the problem, but right now the important part is the very real chance that the problem will not be fixed in time for the expansion. I honestly am not at all convinced that this kill is plausible before it becomes obsolete. Once 4.0 hits, the likelihood of us getting the kill before the expansion is pretty much zero. Too much is changing and there just won’t be time for people to relearn their classes to the degree necessary to kill such a difficult boss. I suggest we seriously consider giving up on this fight and putting some time in on HM RS. The fight is supposedly much easier, the loot is much better and it will be fresh content that will at least be new and exciting. Alternately, we can drop to a one night raid week and just chill in a holding pattern until the expansion. Honestly, I wouldn’t mind either of these ideas.
In regards to WL DKP:
WL DKP is given to people who are ready and available the entire raid night. If you sign on, are not chosen to raid and decide to go do something else, there is nothing wrong with that – just do not expect to get WL DKP. Last night, there were a good number of extra people at the start of raid. However, when we needed people to cover AFKs or computer issues, no one was around. No one that signed up for WL DKP last night would have received any.
That said, no one would have gotten any WL DKP last night anyhow due to the fact nothing died. WL DKP in this guild has always been 5 DKP per boss kill. I am considering revising it to more properly compensate people who sign up for WL on a progression night. I could give them like half of the timed awards that the raid gets or set WL DKP as a standard amount of X DKP per full raid night. I’m open to suggestions on this one.
