Soooo... His objections boil down to: He wants the game to entertain him while he's not playing the game, 4 person groups are too small (AND apparently too big at the same time?), he can't be a dick to people and a 99 inch dick sounds cooler than a 60 inch one.
It seems to me that he's upset that D3 isn't D2 with new graphics. Personally, I'm glad it's not.

If you loved d2 because of the chat system, You probably should have installed IRC.
The main aspect I feel that drove d2 to be such a popular game, along with just about every other blizzard game, has been the progression your "character" goes through. You start off in almost every game as a weakling and end up through struggle and strife to be a BAMF. You are in a constant struggle to get just a bit better whether it be a piece of gear or an extra 5 stat points. Slightly changing their previous recipe for success doesnt mean the game will be ruined.
As for the pking situtation, there was quite a bit of divide ingame when the matter was dragged up. You had "badmannered" pking(mid run hostilities, entrance guarding, corpse camping in an attempt to pop your body) and then you had what some would consider good mannered(Team duels set up, had others waiting in town for 1v1 duels, limiting absorb items to 1 max, and things of this nature). Just because they removed a clear form of harassment and added in a forced good mannered system doesnt make the game doomed.
The person plopt is quoting also obviously enjoyed the Hardcore aspect of d2, which was a small sect of their audience. While the gameplay and attraction was slightly different, the appeal of hardcore was about its difficulty to obtain anything of real value before your character died. This also came with a malicious intent to usually strip from others their hard work and effort through pking and condemning their character to be a black hooded chat icon for the rest of its day.
I feel that d3 is not going to be as polarizing to its player base as every one else believes.
