i don't want to claim that wow is hard, but what exactly are they doing in there?
- zoomed all the way in, don't see any sort of positioning or formation or movement requirements
- the camera guy is running around occasionally casting but mostly doing nothing, while the other people in the video are at least doing something
- no one is obviously aiming or dodging anything other than not standing in front of the boss and the "watch out for the fire move move move"

i mean, yes the graphics look nice, but the fight looks like a dragon mechanic fight with no gimmicks

edit: watched further and there are stuff spawning too. it'd be nice if some mmorpg-ish game had more fps-action-gamey aspects like reactionary/nonpredictable aiming and dodging instead of "lol timing/timers are everything". are there any of those that are good?

Looks to me like there is just as much going on in that fight as any Ive seen in WoW. I'm not entirely sure what you don't see... I see an air phase, ground phase, adds, aoe effects, probably a cleave type mechanic, big old crystals that looked as if they needed to be killed asap, etc. That's about all the gimmick you see in a WoW raid... up, down, move, watch out, nuke... etc.

Considering how many people fail so utterly at something as simple as STACKING I could only applaud GW2 for foregoing bullshit gimmicks of that nature. Though to be fair, its hard to tell exactly what people are doing in this video.

Seems to be the trend that the camera guy just runs around in all of their stage demos. Id rather they be moving around and showing us more of the battlefield than just nuking or performing regularly. Look at any boss kill video made in WoW, none are as remotely interesting to watch as this is. Just because the camera guy isnt doing anything spectacular doesn't mean you can rule out having to use a strategy or not worrying about boss mechanics.

Now, on the other hand... you can tell from the timer in the top corner that this was an individual with a time limit, getting a taste of the game. I wouldn't put it past the devs to make the event easier or flashier for the sake of allowing it to be more accessible to a large convention crowd.

Who knows, there very well may not be a whole lot going on in the mechanics department... but But keep in mind that anyone who has not played WoW is generally bored to tears watching a boss fight video. They have no idea what is happening and the video itself is seen as being overly boring. If nothing else, this was entertaining to watch.

Anyone can increase the length of an experience bar and call it content, but our world is filled with an almost endless stream of things to do. We expect content—not long, grindy progression—to be the deciding factor that keeps people playing our game.

I hope they're not bullshitting because thus far, everything about this game has me drooling.

But then again... I was pretty psyched about Aion too.

I probably should have put this in the OP, because I knew someone was gonna make a post like the above, but here are the notes on the video:

The entire encounter, no edits, no voice over, but captured sound. The Shatterer is ArenaNet's darling event in this demo to the degree that all people in the high level demo are getting a pop up window whether they want to teleport to the place he is going to attack shortly before he does so. Naturally, the guy is swarmed by players as a result and this is why it looks so "easy". If there is not an overabundance of player, he will kill you hands down without getting a scratch on himself. Had I stayed further out, his attacks would have gotten to me. I appear to be rather safe where I am running around, but that is because people are killing his creature spawns very quickly. Now hit weak spot for massive damage.

Also, he responds to some comments and says that he purposely was not doing anything because he was trying to capture the video. You know, like Hitshade does when the fucker is running around getting good camera angles instead of killing the boss.
