I had an old case that was shorting out. If I tapped it with a foot, instant restart. If I moved it only slightly, it'd lock up like that.
Take a time when you don't want to do shit online for a bit and go take everything out / reseat it.
Also check HDD data/power cable connections to both board/PSU and drives, and check to make sure your RAM is seated properly.That can also do it (though if it was RAM I don't think it'd recover).

have you put any thermal paste on the pins of your processor and or actually placed your computer in oil in an attempt to cool it?

Considering the problem is now completely gone after changing to a new hard drive, I will conclude that it was a HD issue. I salvaged the data on the old one, just waiting to see it die now.

Well, hopefully you kept the old one and have a gun somewhere.... shooting those things is pretty entretaining...they tend to 'explode'...or at least shatter and send metal everywhere, looks like an explosion... just don't use some pussy ass 22
