Sign up now. It will be easier to do while it's fresh. They simply prorate your unemployment to compensate for the severance. If you do it now or if you wait three months, the effect is the same - but right now you have all the paperwork in front of you, so why wait? Additionally, part of the unemployment registration processes registers you with state job boards. I'm not sure how good the unemployment resources in Texas are, but even the worst are better than nothing. If you're serious about getting back to work sooner rather than later, your new full time job is finding a job. If you're not putting in 8 hours a day and using every resource available, you're doing it wrong.

Sorry. I'm fairly moderate as a rule, but self sufficiency is one thing I feel pretty strongly about. I'm more Darwinian than even a lot of hard core righties. It's just that I'm logical and realistic. If you're not helping our society, gtfo imo. I'm all for helping the weak grow strong, but helping the weak so they can stay weak is a waste of effort.

I'd rather keep this out of the thread.

That company is what I lived and breathed for close to 2 years.. I can't be mad at them directly, and I still have many friends there.
