You either get an item, or gold instead, and you can get duplicates of what you already have. It won't be any faster gearing up.

You've still removed the chance of dropping an item that no one can use and replaced it with the guarantee of things someone can use. I get the difference between drops that someone "can use" and things that they "need/want/don't already have". But you've removed the chance for Shaman loot to drop in a 10 man with no Shaman. Or Holy Pally loot in a raid with only Rets.

How does that not speed up gearing?

I didn’t say it was bad. I said I was conflicted about it. Which is to say that I’m not quite sure how I feel yet. Like Cahn, I spent the full year of ICC looking to get my BiS bracers that literally dropped once out of the entire 54 weeks (fucking Darktwig). That was frustrating. BUT it did make me actually want to get up and clear the place week after week. And it made Festerface an exciting fight week after week because there was always that five seconds of anticipation as I ran over to see what he’d dropped. On the other hand, it was followed by five minutes of me wanting to punch my monitor.

My current take away from the new loot system is that they can do whatever they want to LFR, cause who cares. That said, I do feel that you will have casuals whining about lack of content faster. However, I’ve heard that Blizzard is looking to push a much more aggressive content schedule going forward – so it may even out. Lastly, I think there will be serious issues to resolve if they think about pushing this out into NM/HM raiding. They will need to find a way for it to work with the thousands of guilds that award loot to deserving members via some kind of DKP system.
