i can do act 1 inferno easily except for some gay combo elites, i struggle to kill normal mobs in act 2

Weak. I was hoping they would change that after it was such a pain in D2. Suddenly being forced to give up all your cool, hard earned gear for boring, shitty resist gear was lame.

The giant leaps in difficulty between modes and the huge reliance on resist gear was stupid. Disapointing to see them going that route again. Hopefully it will be actually challenging in D3 and not just stupid.

It's actually pretty funny how much D3 is just like D2. After being TEN YEARS in the making, I was expecting huge innovations. While they did fix some of D2's more glaring issues (personal loot drops, account wide chest for transfer of items between toons, AH), it's hardly groundbreaking stuff that would require a decade of thought to figure out.

Went and read some Monk forums. Fuck me. Wish I knew that non-kite classes can't do anything outside normal before I sunk 20 hours into it. Time to re-roll...

It's rough but do-able since certain combinations of elites will fuck you over. Honestly what you like HAVE to do is get a set of resist gear for one resistance and when you need to use the passive to increase your other ones to its level. That and you like need to run crippling wave with dmg reduction, the dmg reduction passive, and play like a faggot using your heal and serenity. Seven sided strike is pretty nice for the immunity, and using scorpian kick for the stun helps a bit too but it gets boring and gay.

I play with a witch doctor which makes it much easier than soloing.


Before inferno though you're actually pretty godly as a monk and can pretty much ignore all mechanics after you get a decent set of weapons from the ah. Crippling wave with spirit gen and spamming scorpion kick and exploding palm with transcendence gives you silly self healing. Pretty much every boss you can tank/heal almost all the dmg they do aside from select abilities on Hell.

As for later on, monks actually have an amazing set of disruption abilities. What you need to know is the basic attackspeed/animations of all the mobs and you can avoid so much damage. Almost every mob in the game can have their attacks interrupted or disrupted by some form of monk ability. That and clever use of dashing strike to ranged mobs and basic projectile dodging makes it pretty simple. Granted there are certain mobs that will just fuck you up, which is when you play like a bitch centering everything around seven sided strike burst.

It gets really frustrating but I find it fun to play every pack as a boss and have to pay attention and not just spam my abilities on them.

The most annoying fight as a monk is probably butcher/belial, because if you want to live on high difficulty, there's a very limited amount of time you can actually put dmg on them.


On another note, that achievement for killing spider bitch with no gear sucks ass.

Definitely agree about my Monk being OP so far. I'm only at like level 29 right now but somewhere around 22, I went and bought two Dex/+XP/Socket weapons and quadrupled my DPS. Literally. Not even JK. It's absurd. I just run around spaming Crippling Wave with my regen aura up and it's pure profit. Spirit regen is not a bad idea though. I could probably go even faster if I had more Lashing Tail Kicks (no scorpion rune yet, just using the fire one (vulture?)).

If I can make it to Inferno on the Monk, then I might just stick with it. I'd be completely okay just playing around in Hell for awhile. I just read a lot of people bitching about the end game on classes that can't kite. To hear them talk about it, anything outside of Normal is a complete loss - but there's a good chance that's just exageration and bad players.

I'm all for challenging and hopefully that's what it turns out to be. I'm just not down with frustratingly stupid. I'm really liking the Monk's abilities and playstyle, rather not have to switch to some other class just to be viable.

Yeah. I wonder if that's it or not. I mean, with the whole "one AH for the whole world" thing, I don't really think we're going to see much of an improvement in the gear availability. If you want it, it's already there to be had. You may see some improvement in the supply as more and more people start reaching the higher levels over the next 2-3 weeks, but you'll see a fairly symentrical increase in demand as well. It will probably take awhile for us to see the Farmers get reved up enough to really start bumping up the supply side.

Prices are about as reasonable as they're going to get right now too. No one's going to list an item for 10,000,000 good right now because no one has that much. Prices are only going to go up.

I guess the question is... Does gear even exist that trivializes Inferno?

yes, and good level 60 items are already selling for 3mil+, i enjoy watching streams of the ranged classes just destroying inferno with their 40-50k dps they somehow have already

tldr alyse needs to stay off the forums and l2p. I'm at level 40 with my monk with 17 hours played. I just spam fists of thunder with thunderclap to teleport to every mob and switch to crippling wave for bosses and hard elites. Knockback with vulture kick or stun with seven sided strike when mobs are getting ready to do specials or gang up on you. If you fuck that up, just heal yourself. I use the dodge aura with the armor rune though I may try other ones soon. Use the templar companion if you keep dying; he heals, charge stuns, and taunts which all increase your survivability.
