Off the top of my head (so I might be getting this wrong), Str increases melee damage and HP, Dex increases Accuracy and Dodge, and Int increases Mana Pool and Energy Shield (think overshield). So Int users (and probably Dex too) don’t have a lot of incentive for maxing their primary stat. I’d rather see stuff like +Spell Damage and +Attack Speed tied to a main stat so that you can feel like you’re getting stronger.
Int is pretty awesome actually. Mana regen is based off of total int, so higher int = higher mana regen as well as higher mana / energy shield. This makes you pretty powerful since you can run multiple auras increasing dmg and survivability. This allows you to use 4-5L skills more effectively.
Since you have so many energy shield nodes around the int nodes, you can use your energy shield for health instead of hp. Pick up chaos inoculation so you don't have to worry about chaos dmg (which wrecks in cruel / merciless when you'll typically have negative chaos resistance on any other character for a long time). There are other nodes that turn life regen / leech into energy shield instead as well. It provides some nice synergy if you're going that route.

I would say an ability that drops your hp to 1 and makes you immune to chaos dmg is pretty super. Or the node that removes your mana pool and has you spend life instead of mana for skills. Or the one that converts your energy shield into mana.
There are some pretty crazy unique builds out there that utilize the synergies between different nodes. Kripparian's permanent stun build was pretty sweet until they nerfed it shortly after he made it since his build didn't allow merciless piety to attack once. Another build that focuses around uniques was a build of the week http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EtaH8bPtQw . Just 2 examples, but there are a lot more builds like them
