The thing about VU / Lou Reed is that the music has a lot of different sounds depending on the album. I'd say listen to their self-titled album (my favourite, has kind of a low-fi, soft sound to it) or Loaded (some very catchy straight up rock songs).

Echoing John Frusciante's awesomeness, the five(!) albums that he released in 2004-2005 are basically the best albums of the past 10 or so years.

Yah the one 10 years ago was a complete joke. The problem I'm having now is tyring to think of 10 bands I would actually wanna go see. :x
