Yes I know.. that is why I am working on my t8 shoulders.. I will have over 2200 SP once I get them because then I can equip my other gear which will boost my SP, that is also why I am working towards Embrace of the Spider/Scale of Fates. I almost got my t8 shoulders today, but the rogue rolling against me wouldn't let me buy them off of him =(


Believe me, I am an exceptional mage, even though my SP may be on the lower side compared to all of you... I make up for it with my skill and knowledge.

It's all about stat balancing. The general rule of thumb is something like 1 sp/.8haste/.65crit once you are hit-capped. Remember that with haste especially that the actual dps increase diminishes as your haste begins to climb, as it gets to the point where yes you may have .1% more haste, but that means that for every 100 fireballs you'll fire off one more. I talked this guy in vent yesterday, and it seemed like he had a very well mapped plan for how he wants to itemize in the future. It was annoying how he tried to comment on Furly when I hadn't been on him for months and didn't log in raid gear but hey, it shows that he's thinking at least.

In terms of skill and knowledge, they're pretty much a given. Your role as a mage is very clearly defined in a raid, and it shouldn't be a grand achievement to know what it is. Gear is the tool you use in this game, and better gear will make you perform better on the dps side which is what a dps class is about. And optimizing dps doesn't mean pumping out as much damage as possible at the expense of missing a steal, cs, debuff, or putting yourself in danger, it's about doing as much damage as you can do while prioritizing your other obligations perfectly.
