What would you do... - Hitshade - 07-14-2009 The company you worked for was bought out. You take a pay cut. You are underpaid. You are asked for perfection, but your superiors aren't held to the same standard. Your fellow employees (from the old company) are being systematically fired for lousy reasons. You feel as if you are under the gun and said superiors are likely looking for a reason to let you go. You work for a company who somehow believes they own your off-time as well as your work time. Do you... 1) Suck it up, try getting brown on your nose in what may be a futile effort to secure a future and maintain your living standard. (Even though you hate the company you work for). 2) Quit, leaving with your dignity but knowing you will have to settle for a lousy lower paying job, because the city you live in has one of the higher unemployment rates in the country. Its choose your own adventure, IRL style. Re: What would you do... - Firecrest - 07-14-2009 3) Stay where you are while you look for a job that you will enjoy and pays well. Never burn bridges, even if you hate the bastards. Also, if you really hate them, make them fire you. If you're a good worker, the next job won't care. However, if you're a bad worker, it's time to start brown nosing. Re: What would you do... - Hitshade - 07-14-2009 Rofl, option 3 would be nice... but a little more difficult given the economic climate and sense of urgency. lol, no Burlock... this is basically the situation Im in right now. Ive spent the last 6 months looking for another job without any luck. I was given what is essentially a standing offer from another company, but they can only afford to bring me on as a part-time employee. Meaning Im looking at a 50% pay cut. Various problems have cropped up with the company I currently work for and I am essentially living with a feeling that I will likely be let go in very short order. Given that in the last 6 months, after hundreds of applications I have only received one job offer... the prospect of outright turning it down scares the shit out of me. The window in which I have to change my mind and take the offer, Im quite sure, is very limited. While I may be able to live without some type of social assistance at the new company, there is simply no way I could survive for an extended period of time without a source of income should my fears be realized and I lose my current job. Its a fucking ugly situation and has been weighing very heavily on me the last week or so. I take a great amount of pride in knowing I am a good employee... but it was clear from day one with the franchise that bought out my old employer, that they had little faith in any of its workers. As I mentioned, they have been letting the old workers go over time. Replacing them with their own people. So while I am confident in myself and my abilities I really feel it makes no difference to them. Here's an example... a manager from one of the other stores (the highest grossing store and manager in the entire region) was fired two months ago for arriving 15 minutes late while the General Manager was waiting to do a store inspection. Im not bullshitting about this. There were no other factors and this manager's record was as spotless as anyone could hope for. Since then I have seen similar instances with all the old management. In another example another manager was fired because he had $500 worth of inventory missing from his store. Not a good thing mind you... but here's the kicker: They brought in one of their own managers to take over another store. In his last inventory, he was missing $5000 worth of product. He was not fired and faced no disciplinary action. Fucked up. Re: What would you do... - Lorake - 07-14-2009 Hitshade. Where do you live, what are your degree(s) if you graduated college, and what are your years of experience in. Re: What would you do... - Hitshade - 07-14-2009 Lorake Wrote:Hitshade. I live about an hour from Toronto. To what is now my dismay, I never went to college or university and just began working right out of high school. I have roughly 10 years of sales/customer service experience and 3 years of management experience.
