I would assume places near a college campus would be more normal than the usual mtg location. My brother used to go to a comics store to play mtg and it was filled with little kids and guys in their 30s.

MTG gets a worse rap than it deserves. I used to go to the release events, since it was an easy/fun way to make money. I always won my events and you could always sell the prize packs at a ridiculous upcharge since the events were normally a couple weeks before the product was readily available.

Those events were crawling with people that fit expectations, but there were plenty of just regular people as well.

At that age it's usually not socially acceptable to be playing it outside the privacy of your home just like the stigma against dnd and anime. The advent of the internet and conventions has kind of reduced that though.
