10 vs 25 - ArchmageFurly in three days - 12-12-2010
At one point I said that it would be better to run 10 mans until we could from a solid 25 man raid roster. I'm going to retract that statement. I'm of the opinion now that it will be better for the guild as a whole if we start playing together as soon as possible. Not only is 25 man tuned down from 10 man, but segregating into 10 mans so early on will make the divisions within the guild gro only larger at this point. I've yet to discuss it with the other officers, but I propose that we move towards scheduling the first 25 man raids a week from this coming Tuesday, and starting our normal raid schedule.

I expected us to arrive at the conclusion that 10 mans were more difficult than 25 mans, but wasn't sure if it would require multiple groups doing 10 mans, several 80s, a week or two of wiping, or what to discover so.
25 man normal raid time Tuesday sounds great. Should aim to have at minimum 333 ilvl in every slot.

Your group last night failed hard. Big whoop. Silhouette is 4/12 and they did it like two days ago. Clearly you guys were doing something wrong. Find it, fix it and move on. Not that big of a deal. Don't cry about how it's too hard.
I still see no good reason for doing 25 mans at all. Having two main ten mans will be more successful, probably get more loot and definitely get more legendaries. My vote is to never do 25 mans.

Did you read what I said at all Alyse?
Our ultimate goal was to get back to 25 man raiding and I'm asking if people want to accelerate that. I'd prefer to do 25, if the guild wants to split up into 10 mans have fun with that.

And I'll say this about doing 10 mans. If you're only switching to 10 mans now because it drops the same gear, and it's easier to get 10 strong people to run, then it means that you're only raiding for the sake of getting better gear, as if you just wanted to clear content on 10 mans you had plenty of chances to do that in Wrath. I feel that 25 man player raiding is more engaging, and just feels more epic and exciting than 10 player. I enjoy playing with a large group of people. The reason 10 mans felt fun in wrath is that its when we joked around and had fun as opposed to actually caring about progression. we still have that opportunity now through alts.
Edit: And I'll say this now, despite what everyone is saying, 10 man progression will not be considered as seriously as 25 man due to that fact that you need to get 25 solid players, and it'll only be the best guilds that can do that. Perhaps that'll change in the future, but as for now, all people are talking about are the 25 man guilds.

It comes down to the guild ideology: is it focused on a 25m progression raid or multiple 10 man groups? It's hard to reach a consensus on this matter.

Alyse the point was that 10 mans are relatively more difficult than 25 mans and I really wouldn't take server rankings as anything indicative of performance this early on. We did fine on Omnotron.
