Im excited for D3 and all, but damn, people go nuts over beta invites. Id probably play a little to check it out, but I think I can wait. Pretty sure beta invites are just a new form of marketing to get people super excited and spread their ecstasy to people who otherwise wouldn't be interested in the game.
