HALP Any ideas - Mikaelo - 07-28-2009
At random times my screen will turn into a weird blend of colors of whatever is going on on my screen. It looks like if you took the colors on my screen and then threw up all over my screen. When this happens my computer just locks up and I have to power it off from the case. Sometimes when I try to start it back up my motherboard wont POST and I have to shut it off and back on again. There doesn't seem to be any type of consistency when it happens, it has happened when I'm idling, when I'm in a game or watching a movie. Sometimes when I turn my computer back on even my BIOS and/or windows XP loading screen is fucked up (part of the screen is just tiled everywhere). Sometimes it happens 3-4 times consecutively within 5 mins of turning my computer on then it wont happen again for hours. This just started happening when I unplugged all of my components to clean the dust off stuff so I thought maybe I didn't plug something in all the way or something that wasn't suppose to be touching my motherboard/case was touching it and shorting it out but I've reconnected everything and cable tied everything so its neat and nothing is touching something it's not suppose to. I'm stumped and it's really annoying, anybody have any inch of a clue of what is happening?

Heat issue on your video card.
It can also mean that one of the components was already so overheated that its just going to randomly doing that at operating temperature.
I had a capacitor blow out on a 8800GT and it still ran for a week.
I would RMA the card, whats the make/model?

My temps seem to be fine
GPU gets to about 55ÂșC when I'm playing a game
My video card is an evga 7800GTX 256mb
Re: HALP Any ideas - abecx - 07-28-2009
evga has a great rma policy, I've had to rma 4 video cards with them. 7800GTX is a little old but they will probably still approve it.
The temperature might be fine now but most likely the damage is already done. What you described I've seen many times and its always been a fubar'd video card.

Video card is fucked.

I had a problem like this back in the day on my 6600 GT...they told me that the graphics card was broken...like I purchased a broken one. I replaced the graphics card and it worked fine.

The 7xxx series has known Memory issues, they are most likely gonna send an 8xxx series cause its Evga and they are fucking awesome! So just RMA it, should take about a week or so. Hopefully you have a back up card homie.

So my shit was fine all day today and about 5 minutes into playing counter-strike my shit fucked up again and my motherboard wouldnt POST so I unplugged my video card and turned it back on and I got a beep code, that definitely means my video card is shot right? lol
Re: HALP Any ideas - Mikaelo - 07-28-2009
my part number ends in AX which is covered by lifetime warranty according to EVGA's website so I'm gonna try to RMA it and hopefully they accept it and maybe even send me a better video card since they dont make 7800GTX's anymore I don't think In the mean time Aseic is bringing me a friends old 6800 card so I can raid, hopefully it works
Re: HALP Any ideas - Mikaelo - 07-28-2009
LOLLL I got pwned, turns out my video card is the only item I didn't buy on Newegg so I don't have an invoice or receipt or anything so I can't RMA it
