I agree a player should take every upgrade which they can benefit from and side grades are debatable. However the people doing DKP and loot (Abec, Alyse, and myself) don't understand every stat, item, and piece of loot that drops we have enough to worry about, so I've always left this issue to the class leaders to take care of.
Not trying to single anyone out, alot of people did it i'm sure, but there should be a penalty for not trying to take upgrades in order to guarantee a item later on. now passing on items cause it's a massive upgrade for another to benefit the raid is one thing, but hording DKP to get a item off the last boss just results in players being undergeared for w/e content is being worked upon.
