The scanners have cost millions and millions of dollars. Some people are getting incredibly, ridiculously wealthy off these machines. Lobbyists are making a killing promoting these pieces of shit. .

Terahertz emitters and detectors are "incredibly, ridiculously" expensive to produce (its not some conspiracy that each scanner is $1.5 million), and the DoD is spending billions on research every year. Lobbyists aren't making shit.
