For Windows XP: C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Patches\WoW-3.0.9-to-3.1.0-enUS-Win-patch
that folder must contain complete files of wow-partial-1.MPQ (555MB), wow-partial-2.MPQ (158MB), wow-final.MPQ (23.9MB), and the Blizzard Updater (2.27MB)
running the updater in that folder with the completed version of all these files will update the game to version 3.1.9767
if you have a merged battle.net account and have recently ran a repaired in an attempt to resolve the "game version could not be validated" error, and your launcher has reverted to the 3.0.1 version you need to replace it with the 3.0.8 version launcher found here
