What would you do...
#6
Rofl, option 3 would be nice... but a little more difficult given the economic climate and sense of urgency.

lol, no Burlock... this is basically the situation Im in right now.

Ive spent the last 6 months looking for another job without any luck. I was given what is essentially a standing offer from another company, but they can only afford to bring me on as a part-time employee. Meaning Im looking at a 50% pay cut. Various problems have cropped up with the company I currently work for and I am essentially living with a feeling that I will likely be let go in very short order.

Given that in the last 6 months, after hundreds of applications I have only received one job offer... the prospect of outright turning it down scares the shit out of me. The window in which I have to change my mind and take the offer, Im quite sure, is very limited. While I may be able to live without some type of social assistance at the new company, there is simply no way I could survive for an extended period of time without a source of income should my fears be realized and I lose my current job.

Its a fucking ugly situation and has been weighing very heavily on me the last week or so. I take a great amount of pride in knowing I am a good employee... but it was clear from day one with the franchise that bought out my old employer, that they had little faith in any of its workers. As I mentioned, they have been letting the old workers go over time. Replacing them with their own people. So while I am confident in myself and my abilities I really feel it makes no difference to them.

Here's an example... a manager from one of the other stores (the highest grossing store and manager in the entire region) was fired two months ago for arriving 15 minutes late while the General Manager was waiting to do a store inspection. Im not bullshitting about this. There were no other factors and this manager's record was as spotless as anyone could hope for. Since then I have seen similar instances with all the old management. In another example another manager was fired because he had $500 worth of inventory missing from his store. Not a good thing mind you... but here's the kicker: They brought in one of their own managers to take over another store. In his last inventory, he was missing $5000 worth of product. He was not fired and faced no disciplinary action. Fucked up.
