I think that no addon policies are a terrible idea.

Most of the super popular online games in the PC are the ones that came with map editors, extra tools and allowed customization (starcraft maps, doom mods, half life mods). If I had to use the default WoW UI for the last 5 years (because for the first year I never had to raid or use an addon) I would have gone crazy today.

A LOT of addon stuff has been gradualy built into the game:
Threat visuals, quest helper, equipment manager, power auras, even the horrible raid frames pre-cata were born after CTRaid frame, and now a better raid frame option (which is ok IMO for everyone except healers that use extra info that can be set up in grid).

As for balance, obviously the only MMO that will be able to come out of the box with a balance that can compete with WoW will be BLizzard's next MMO, its not only the 6 years of experience in WoW, they had also Diablo, Starcraft and Warcraft 3 to learn a lot of things about balance in different areas.

I thought I read somewhere that Trion might allow UI mods in the future. I dont necessarily care though, the default UI serves its purpose and the ability to customize positions/sizes is a nice touch. It also forces everyone to play on an equal level.

I also dont think balance is as important when there aren't small pvp arenas to deal with. (Neither did Blizzard as we all recall) I should hope that some imbalance would serve to encourage people to work together in warfronts. (Something Defiant players are brutally incapable of right now, for some fucking reason).

Besides if I couldnt roll around with an OP soul combo the fact that Im actually a terrible pvp player would be more apparent. Without class balance, I can deliver vastly more damage than all those non-flavour-of-the-month players. Makes me think Im good, then I go taking screenshots like this to capture my inflated ego.
