Alyse, my post was not directed at you in particular, the fact that you thought it was reinforces the defensive attitude of most people in the raid.

My point in a nutshell. Abe is posting these numbers not to force anyone to comment them, but for the people who may want to look through them and see if there is something they can change. If he posted the wrong numbers, by all means give him the correct ones. But the person I'm addressing is Annysia. If you think you can't learn anything when something is posted such as damage taken etc, feel free to ignore it. It's being posted for people who care to look through them to see if there's anything they can improve upon. everyone is aware that the numbers aren't perfect and things skew them, and I'm sure the people who care to learn from them take that into consideration.

In short, and I'm guilty of this too, we argue just for the sake of an argument. Our long discussion about Snowz and interupts on left side. Turns out he was lagging slightly and simply MISSING his interrupt. But rather than simply accepting that we had to turn it into a huge debate. At least Snowz had the decency to just send me a tell and say "hey, maybe I'm just missing them and we're making too much of this". And guess what, he realized he made a mistake, adjusted, and we killed it. All of us need to follow that example. If you know you made a mistake, say it rather than letting the raid try and reinvent the wheel after every wipe.

If you think it's defensive to point out that the information we're using is incorrect, then I don't know what to tell you.

I hate to say it, but I agree with Annysia for the most part. I don't think it's a good idea to try to pull a whole truth out of half-relevant information. Abe keeps saying to look at a set of data and to mentally separate what's worthwhile and what's not. I just don't see that as a good method for finding problems. Specifically, Survivability is just such a relative metric. So many things can throw it off or skew the numbers.

In this case, it would be more useful to determine what you died to instead of when you did it. The guy who died to lava spew 30 seconds in has just as much room for improvement as the guy who died to lava spew 30 seconds before we called a wipe. This is not to say that the "when" is not important. You obviously still need to filter out purposeful deaths to called wipes.

To be fair, I suppose Survivability could be one place to start the process. You could identify the small handful of people at the very very bottom as potential people to take a closer look at. But saying things like everyone should be above 95% is just not helpful. The variability in the reliability of this metric is definitely more than +/- 5%.

There are three possible outcomes of raid encounters:

1. Defeat the encounter
2. Hit enrage and everybody dies at nearly the same time resulting in 99% survivability for the entire raid
3. Suck dick

Thus not defeating the encounter and a < 99% survivability means dick was being sucked.
