I tried to re-encode the file and bring it down to a more reasonable size, so it could be shared more easily...
Unfortunately for what ever reason, my programs are not playing nice with the source file. (I generally use Adobe Premiere Pro CS4, but on occasion I break out Sony Vegas) I wrestled with it for about 3 hours, trying several different encoding methods and codecs with no luck. On a whim I even tried to encode it in the same format, without results. I don't know what to make of it... there is something about the video format/encoding my shit just wont cooperate with.
Unless I can get my hands on an uncompressed avi version I dont think there is much I will be able to do! Not that I really want to download 10 gigs+ of uncompressed video in the first place.
Sorry!
Out of curiosity, what video editing program are you using Abe?
Over time I settled on encoding my videos in an MPEG2 format. It seems to achieve the best compression/quality ratio for my needs. I specifically chose this because the video hosting sites I have tried (youtube, vimeo, wegame) seem to treat this particular format very well. With other formats I saw an unacceptable loss of quality after the site had prepared the file for streaming.
Generally these are the settings I shoot for:
NTSC 1280x720
29.97 (drop frame) fps
Progressive field order
Variable bitrate: 1 pass. Minimum 4, Target 6, Max 8 (Mbps)
If the project is going to be too large for the sites hosting requirements I can just reduce the max bitrate until I achieve a file size that is acceptable. However, I haven't run into any issues so far. Take the Yogg 10m video for example, its just a hair over 9 minutes in length but the file was less than 600MB. The original fraps portion of the video isnt "crystal" clear because it is being re-sized from the original 1680x1050 source, but at full resolution you could still make out whats being said in my chat frames. The intro on the other hand, was just as clean as the source file.
