Abe you make some pretty badass videos haha. Quality is really nice on Youtube HD but im gonna download the torrent just to seed it. It's downloading at 100 kb/s not bad.

@HitShade
The video is encoded with Windows Media Video 9 Professional (VC-1/MPEG4 Part 10) and Windows Media Audio 9.2. The size and quality of these codecs are superior to MPEG2. The only downside is that it is a little more CPU intensive than MPEG2. The other options for MPEG4 is h.264 (more CPU intensive) and Xvid/DivX (MPEG4 Part 2, requires users to download/install a codec or use a third-party player).
To reduce the size, I would suggest lowering the framerate to FILM speed or 23.976 fps. Since abec is probably running at a 16:10 resolution (like 1920x1200 or 1680x1050) the best resolution for 720p HD is 1152x720 (which what the video is). I did notice the max bitrate was not limitted in the video and at some point reached 20Mb/s. For 720p content, you can probably get away with a max bitrate of 4MB/s.
The sharpness/clarity of the resize depends on the resample method being used. For shrinking video content, a high quality bi-linear OR a custom bicubic algorithm designed for shrinking images should be used. I personally use Spline or Lanczos.

As mentioned the reason I went with mpeg2 was because of the general ease of uploading them to hosting sites without incident. On numerous occasions, videos I have encoded in windows media and divx formats ran into errors or quality loss I found unacceptable. Maybe its a fault of my encoding, idk. I didnt notice a large difference in file size using the mpeg2 format either. (granted there was a difference)
There are a few other reasons I opt for that particular format, the foremost of which is the ease of which it can be edited and manipulated later. (say if I wanted to burn a dvd)
I don't profess to be an expert though... clearly you seem to have more technical knowledge so Im open to any more suggestions you might have. But then I expect anyone who WORKS FOR BLIZZARD AND PLAYS SCII AND DIABLO 3 ON A REGULAR BASIS would have more technical expertise than I. :lol: (I just love the way you seem to get squeamish when anyone suggests you're a GM or a dev, I dont mean to insult... just promise some day you'll tell me what you REALLY do. lol)
Im particularly interested in trying out those two programs you mentioned. Its long been a desire to scale my 1680x1050 source files to something more reasonable with as minimal quality loss as possible. Would I get better results if I went to 1280x800 as it is also a 16:10 aspect? (That would pose a problem though, as most hosting sites have a maximum resolution on 1280x720) Maybe 1440x900?

That fight doesn't look all that hard.
