The sad part is that I see that mistake so often from people that I glaze right over it now. It took me like three reads to figure out what you were talking about.

Maybe we're at the point where so many people make the mistake, it becomes correct. Like the pronounciation of February.

is the result of dissimilation, the tendency of like sounds to become unlike when they follow each other closely. An additional influence is analogy with January. Although sometimes criticized, this dissimilated pronunciation of February is used by educated speakers and is considered standard.

I've always thought etymology was really interesting. Dunno why.
