So after reading "@ Rootbear" thread like 1034873 times, I finally realized that maybe I should do some research. Nothing in that post really gave me that idea, it was sort of a spark in my head, a hunch if you will.
Anyhoo, when inspecting shadow priests getting ~5k DPS on Patchwerk via WWS, I found some theories and probable answers as to how it was possible, and eventually I found this-
"The culprit is Master Poisoner, the Assassination rogue talent. It currently adds 3% crit for each stack of Deadly Poison, and Ominix's raid had two Mutilate rogues - therefore he received an additional 27% chance to crit due to that bug."
Apparently this bug is confirmed by many members of the WoW community so far as I could read. Since Shadow Priests gain a direct percentage based increase in DPS for each percentage of critical strike chance they have, their DPS simply skyrockets with an extra ~30% chance to crit. In one WWS I saw, the priest had an 80% chance to crit on all of his spells. When every tick of mind flay is hitting for 103% extra damage, every dot ticking for an extra 80% more damage...Spriest DPS turns into an absolute boon.
Beyond that, most of the shadow priests pulling these numbers are stacking 10-13% haste while only have ~15% crit rating. While I have virtually no haste, my crit rating through gear is 10-12% higher than theirs. HOWEVER, from WWS spreadsheets it lists their crit rate as actually HIGHER than mine. So not only are these priests casting much faster than me, but are also somehow critting much more often despite the lack of stats to back it up. Doesn't take a rocket surgeon to realize that they would be dealing a LOT more damage than me.
So yeah, I found that incredibly interesting, and figured I should bring it to everyone's attention.
