  Rogue weapon swap addon
Posted by: Keiku - 11-11-2009, 09:19 AM - Forum: GINERAL FORUM - Replies (7)

Rogue
Weapon Swapping

Let me put it this way....

Fine: A rogue changes targets so needs to swap weapons to get a different poison on that target. This is more of a strategic thing -- something you only do a few times per fight.

Not fine: A rogue swaps weapons constantly on the same target in order to get lots of poisons on that target. This is more of a hassle, not an interesting decision the player is making. This is more in line with a caster switching weapons to maximize a proc and then swapping back. It's not fun and it feels like you have to do this annoying and unintuitive (unless you read the forums a lot) trick to maximize your dps.

Now like someone said above, you could make a weapon swapping mod for say Feral druids and few people would feel the need to use it. It's not the existence of a mod that's a problem. Mods do lots of crazy things. It's a problem if it feels mandatory to raiding rogues. That however is a very subjective call and one that's ultimately up to us to make. We're keeping an eye on it. (Source)

The solution is very easy (conceptually) - when Deadly Poison procs and a 5-stack is on the target, cause your other hand's poison to proc. This effectively replicates the effect of weapon swapping, works for all specs, and slightly buffs rogue PVE DPS beyond where it's at right now - something which rogues are in dire need of, looking at the parses coming out of 3.3 so far. Additionally, it ensures that raiding rogues will use Deadly Poison, as Blizzard has worked so hard to make it attractive to us.

We've heard that suggestion a few times and it might be something we explore. We'd certainly rather make swapping not necessary rather than just be mean and prevent it.

Some of you are posting that rogues will use anything that maximizes their dps and this maximizes their dps. That's not really the point.

Our original comment on swapping was that it appeared to provide a marginal dps increase and we knew that some rogues who tried it weren't happy with how it worked because the risk was high of screwing something up. So while it theoretically maximized dps, it was risky enough and the gain low enough that we weren't sure it would become mainstream.

Now things are trending that the dps increase is significant and Adrine's mod is written so well that it takes a lot of the risk away, even in PvP. That weights things more towards doing something about it, though judging from Adrine's posts, I don't think he'll mind. Smiley (Source)

Rogues aren't getting nerfed
Agreed. We're not interested in nerfing rogues here, just making an annoying mechanic less attractive. (Source)

1. Your age, gender, and time played: 17/Male/203 Days, 0 hours

2. List any alts and off specs you have gear for AND CAN PLAY COMPETENTLY (your main should be able to respec and play any spec on the fly): Prot: Def Capped + 32k hp, Can play that or holy- no holy gear

3. Armory links (mandatory):http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet...&n=Notfair
PvE Gear Stats are: 4455 AP / 261 Hit Rating / 32.07% Crit / 20 Expertise

4. Any WWS or WMO links or other clear indication of your performance in a raid (recommended): :violin: I can do 6k DPS

5. We are a raiding guild and are usually in the top 100 guilds in the US; it is expected you have raiding experience and know ALL encounters and hard modes currently in game! In your opinion, what is the most difficult boss encounter you have ever defeated and why?: Tanking Archimonde as a prot pally was a feat of strength to me

6. Previous guilds/servers and reason for leaving, also include any references we may contact: Nathrezim is now a horrible server and I want what I once had back in the old days. / References: Watzman, Entrapment

7. It is assumed you will be available from 8-12 ST (Server Time is EST) Sunday through Thursday. If you can’t, please explain why you couldn't make our scheduled raid times (or why you even bothered applying): As of right now I cannot make the raids until 8:30, but if I am accepted, I can work it out to where I can

8. Explain what specifically puts you at the top? We raid to be at the top and expect it of all our members. Do you take pride in topping meters, never letting the tank die, never pulling aggro, etc.? What separates you from the rest? Be specific, this will be a major indicator of the kind of player you are: I read up on my class and the upcoming changes to it bi-weekly. I make sure to gem/enchant the gear I have and the gear I get properly. If there is a problem with my performance, I know it earlier than anyone else; making sure to fix whatever problem there is that is hindering my raid viability. It brings me great pleasure to be higher than other people on DPS meters; although, I do not sacrifice raid utility for numbers.

10. If you have thoroughly answered the following questions and you are confident you are what we are looking for, you have a good chance of being trialed, but we'd like to know why you want to join us? What made you choose us over the other guilds out there? I got <Learn To Jump> tattooed across my chest, so there aren't many other places to go.

So long and thanks for all the fish?
Posted by: Hitshade - 11-10-2009, 08:49 PM - Forum: GINERAL FORUM - Replies (21)

Well maybe not the "so long" part.

So its been a fun ride I guess. Ups and downs and what have you. In any case, with all the comments Ive heard from Abe recently about the "moonkin spot" apparently being up for grabs I figured I'd throw my voice in as well. I will say it would have been nice to be told of this decision, in an outright fashion... but thats besides the point. I'm not here to flame or bitch, its his guild and he can do whatever he likes with his available raid spots.

Obviously I haven't had 100% attendance over the last few months. Generally there is at least one night a week where Im either late or absent. This in itself is reason for some guilds to remove a player, but thankfully Ive been lucky enough to roll with WLPH. A place where great players aren't kicked to the curb because of minor things like that. (which is why Im not going to do any bitching Wink )

In any case my work related attendance issues aren't going to disappear. With the direction Abe wants to take the guild heading into ICC I don't want to be in a position where the raid could be left relying on a sub-par player or trial in a time of need because I cant be there. (let the jokes commence). As such, it makes more sense for the guild to find a new player for the moonkin role. Hopefully they are half as competent and can keep up my glorious tradition of shitting on all but the cream of the crop, of dps classes. (Admit it, you were graced by the king of Moonkins for over a year. rofl.)

Obviously I took (hell I still take) pride in being a part of WLPH... that much should be relatively obvious. The truth is, the unsettling knowledge that I have spent over 300 full days playing this game also led to this decision. Three hundred days of my life I have sat in front of my computer playing this game. (Just think about that for a while... assuming I were making a measly minimum wage of $10/hr during my playtime... that would be $72,000)

Long story short, I'm going casual. At least for the foreseeable future. If I am needed, I will raid... but going forward I wont be altering my schedule to ensure I'm sitting at my computer ready to rock at 8pm. ;p I want to thank everyone for the time Ive been able to spend with you. Even the scrubs... you know who you are. I hope that should I decide to begin raiding full time again, I may be able to fill a spot. I'll be around!

In closing, I would like to say: YOU KNOW WHAT ABE? FUCK YOU AND FUCK YOUR GUILD! VOX NOVUS!

In your opinion, what is the most difficult boss encounter you have ever defeated and why?: 25HM Freya, It was like giving Chuck Norris the powers of a frost mage. The complexity of positioning, timing, dps and healing was all relevant to the entire fight up until easy mode.

6. Previous guilds/servers and reason for leaving, also include any references we may contact: Square Peg - horde Scilla

Do you take pride in topping meters, never letting the tank die, never pulling aggro, etc.? What separates you from the rest? Be specific, this will be a major indicator of the kind of player you are: I may not be the best, but I always try to be. I am extremely competitive with a lethal arsenal of gear, knowledge, and skill. I have spent days theory crafting and re-geming just to gain a little more healing ability. All of this makes me a top of the line healer who will not only go by the top research but use my own ability to choose the stats right for me and the current fight. An achievement I recently completed and can be varified by Square Peg members was a 10totgc, Beast fight. The other healer went afk right before fight and died in the very beginning leaving me to solo heal all 3 phases. Only at the end of Worms 1 dps died leaving 2 dead, including the priest. I was literally shaking from nearly shitting myself, my asshole was more clynched than a guy in prison with a cell mate named Tank.

DO NOT INCLUDE IN APPLICATION
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is required you bring full consumables to every raid; that includes food buffs, two elixirs or flasks, and enough pots for the entire night, and of course fully repaired and ready to go when invites are out.

It is required you use the best gems and get the best enchants on your gear; endgame raiders should not have any cheap gems, cheap or no enchants, and/or incorrect stats for your class. If you can’t take the time to buy a top quality gem or research what stats you should use, then you don’t belong raiding endgame.

You also must have a decent computer, decent Internet connection, and not have any lag/FPS issues. We also use Ventrilo during raids and speak English, it is necessary that you use Vent and a microphone, and be able to effectively communicate during raids. Omen, DBM/Big Wigs, and Pally Power (for Paladins) are REQUIRED. A unit/raid frame addon (such as Grid or Xperl), a stat tracker (such as Recount), and a decursive are highly recommended.

Ever since my guild Makaveli broke up in BC that I was with since release I have been looking for a guild I could progress with and enjoy content. I like to have fun without having to worry about scaring some small child, but get down to business and kill a boss. I had that in Makaveli but haven't been able to find it since. I can be extremely helpfull due to my experience in the game and my humor is always a mood lightener. I am not only an asset to any raid but an all around great guy who can have fun but stay away from drama. I also have common sense so I don;t stand in fire, unless that fire includes a beer...then I will stand in it.

Posted by: raven - 11-10-2009, 09:07 AM - Forum: PUG RUNS - Replies (27)

WLPH Now hosts a Regular 25m TotC/Ony aimed to clear Tournament and Onyxia in 2 hours or less, ideally finishing in 1 hour. This is aimed to take WLPHers who didn't make the main raid's normal clear as well as PuGs who are only interested in TotC and Ony 25m. No suck - we can't wipe to your stupidity all day.

Tally loot system applies.

YOU WILL GET TALLIES FOR THE FOLLOWING OFFENSES -
Getting Charged on Beasts - 1 Tally

More to be added based on dumb mechanics that no one should fail to.

For the most part it will be first come, first serve, best skilled get the slots. However i will take close friends over pugs i do not know if the pug is late to signing up so sign up as soon as possible. I will be gear checking now, since some people are still not pulling their weight on dps meters and cost us kills.

If you are rolling on gear that is not the spec you are raiding as please let me know.
